    Bar to Re-enlistment

Hello, currently I am army wife who knows NOTHING about the military. I'm going to try to make this story as concise as possible.  My husband is active duty and stationed in Germany.  He left me in the U.S. per his request.  We have been married for only 1 1/2 years, and he's been in Germnay for almost 2 1/2 years.  Okay, I think you can pretty much figure out what's going on here.

Currently he is barred from re-enlistment due to an article 15. This is his second one since he has been over there.  They tried to charge him for adultery too, but they forgot to read him his rights before he confessed to it, so he got off.  Then they tried to chapter him out a couple of months ago, but since he has a total of 10 years in the the service (he was in the National Gaurd for 8 years prior to going AD), they could not do it with out a review.  The guy is 32y/o, went AD in the army as a PFC, got promoted to SPC over1 year later, and is now PFC again.

He swears that he is staying in the army and that he will be back state-side in April or May, even though he is still barred at the moment.  The reason I'm wondering about all of this is that he wants to reconcile, and I feel that he might be using me as a safety net if he gets kicked out.

If someone wants to give my some advice about this, or an opinion, I'm willing to listen.  I honestly don't know anything about this stuff,

    Re: Bar to Re-enlistment

First off, it sounds like you are in a bad way with a terrible soldier.  I really dislike soldiers who do get married and then don't take care of their spouses.

You have a good hunch, that he is probably using you as a safety net.  His Retention Control Point (RCP) is coming up as he is a Specialist not in promotable status (which is ten years).  First, he wound need to be unflagged to become eligible for promotion back to Specialist.  Then he would need to go to the promotion board to be put on promotable status.  I frankly can't see any higher Non-Commissioned Officer recommending him for promotion to Sergeant if he has had recent Article 15's.

Simply put: Your best bet is to "cut sling load", while you still can.
