I have a son who finished BCT  but failed his AIT pt test by 20 seconds. After exodus he and a group of others were asked back to retake the pt test and were told they had 3 wks to pass but after one wk the commander said enough and is sending them home! Hes getting a chapter 11 entry level separation. Will he be able to reenlist? He has passed everything academically in AIT with flying colors and was 20 seconds off the run!! This is very frustrating for all of us of course, especially since we feel the armys training program did not train these kids well enough, the kids who started Basic fat ended the program fat! What happened to running everyday in Basic?!  Many of the heavy kids were sent to fat camp (he did not qualify since hes not fat, just a poor runner)  Sorry to vent but I am a concerned mom! In spite of everything he wants to reenlist and I was told by recruiters the wait is 6 months. Is that correct? I'd appreciate any feedback.He'd especially like to know if he reenlists will he have to repeat basic and AIT  or just AIT? Thanks so much

 

Here's what I can tell you, I personally failed my first PT Test which must be past before you can graduate AIT, And I went on to serve more than t a few years afterword's, I was not the only one that failed when I went to retake it, there was a least 20 guys there, I also met more than one person who failed and had to retake it, in fact it happens to permanent party soldiers all the time, so they retake it until they pass.. so.. I get the feeling you might I say again MIGHT not be getting the whole story.. that having been said.. if you think you are you might try getting your son to request to see his commander, By going through his chain of command, that last part is very important, also I want you to know I was rejected while going through in-processing they denied me trying to even enter the service, luckily I called my Granddad (who was a veteran of WW II) who quietly told me to gather myself go to the Sargent that was in charge of my processing and request to see the Col.(also a doctor) who denied me, the sarge Did not have to  arrange for me to see the Doc, but he did, I took granddad's advice and humbly requested  that he please reconsider, he did and I was accepted, When  I got back with  my recruiter he said he had never personally experienced or even heard of anyone getting denied and admitted like I was that day (although I'm sure It has). So I hope you get my point.. where theirs a will theirs a way, but your son MUST at some point do all that he is told to do and he should do it as quickly and efficiently as he is capable. I hope this Helps you understand some of what your son is going through and enable you to give him a little advice. Hears hope-in.. a little prayer couldn't hurt either..
