The Pentagon has announced extensions for some units currently in Iraq. The
Pentagon’s public affairs office said 3,500 soldiers of the 2nd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, and 3,000 from the 1st Infantry Division headquarters will remain in Iraq at least two months longer than planned. These soldiers were apparently originially slated for 10 month deployments, so the extension should not keep them away from their families much longer than a year. (However, anyone with a military family member knows that another day can be an eternity.) Whether more extensions can be expected is yet unknown.
