Interesting Bush Quote

Today, President Bush signed the Defense Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2005.  This is an important piece of legislation, as it helps establish the military budget for the year.

The President did open his remarks by recognizing the extraordinary demands placed on our servicemen and women, including those of the Guard and Reserve.  He also noted that we are in a conflict different than any we have engaged in before, with a different kind of enemy.  None of this is notable.  However, it is what he said about America's response that is interesting.

“Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we.”

Hmmm.  The full text of this speech can be found here.

That quote ranks up there with Dan Quayle's remark to an NAACP conference that "a mind is a terrible thing."

Don't forget the sentence that follows:

"We must never stop thinking about how best to defend our country when we all must always be forward-thinking."

It is no great secret that the current President does not speak as eloquently as the former one. I think his intent was that we must consider all means by which the terrorists might attack us.

Does any one believe that the President actually intends to harm us? O.K., conspiracy theories aside, this is a funny quote, but it doesn't really amount to anything.

I 'got it' but I can see why most won't. If I am tasked to devise a safety system..terror related or otherwise, I am going to always think of ways to first...do the harm. Why? Because if I can exhaust all of my best ways to DO harm, by then creating ways to deter/detect/thwart the efforts, I have done a GOOD job.
